There's more at stake than money

Naturally (DUI attorney) Donald Ramsell and the Beverage Institute don't like the DUI ignition interlocks. They don't want to stop drunken driving because their income is dependent on it.

I do agree with them when they say, it hurts the offender's family if the device is installed in their car. Tough. It's the price one pays for driving drunk. The drunken driver should have considered that "price" before drinking and driving.

Breaking the law affects more than just the victim, but many people: the victim's friends and family as well as the offender's own friends and family. After all, if a person is a murderer, isn't his own family affected as well? Susan McKinney's statement makes the most sense: "We know this won't end drunken driving, but it's going to help."

Perhaps Mr. Ramsell and the Beverage Institute should keep that in mind, and focus on stopping the drunken driving instead of money.
