Roskam didn't just side with Bush
I can't help but be simply astounded by the misinformed individuals writing letters to the editor lately to the Daily Herald. Fran Quinn of Medinah stated Congressman Peter Roskam never disagreed with former President Bush on any issues. She went on to say that Mr. Roskam had no problem with the money Bush spent on banks and that Mr. Roskam falsely claimed to be fiscally responsible.
With all due respect to Ms. Quinn, she is clearly misleading the readers of the Daily Herald without any hard facts to back up her claims. It's unfortunate that Ms. Quinn could not even take the time to research Roskam's voting record. After reading Ms. Quinn's letter I discovered that Roskam's stances on issues are just a simple click away on his Web site, as well as all over local newspapers. I found that Roskam disagreed with Bush on several issues including: FutureGen, No Child Left Behind, Mexican trucks, the Water Resources Development Act and, to prove just how uninformed Ms. Quinn is - all three bailouts. When Bush and Congressional Democrats swiftly pushed the banking bailouts through Congress, Roskam stood up for Illinois' hardworking families and small business owners with his "no" vote. Roskam was also quoted numerous times in the press, including the Daily Herald, stating that we have not exhausted every conceivable option, and, therefore, he could not vote for the nearly trillion-dollar bailout.
If Ms. Quinn had performed her due diligence, she would have easily found that Roskam has been named the most fiscally responsible member of Congress among the entire Illinois Delegation.
In the future, I encourage all individuals who consider submitting letters of opinion to their local newspapers, to check their facts before making false statements about a man who is fighting to protect our precious taxpayer dollars.
