Incumbents do well in Algonquin Twp. primary

People voting in the Algonquin Township Republican primary for trustee selected two familiar faces and a new one to move on to the April 7 election.

According to unofficial tallies, incumbents Linda Lance received 464 votes, Joseph Powalowski had 461 votes, Niels Sorensen had 451 votes and challenger Lowell Cutsforth had 454 votes.

They all advance to the spring election where they face Democrats James McTague, Robert Frank and Frank Hyden for four, 4-year trustee seats.

"Sounds like the voters are happy with the township - the way it's being run," said Powalowski, who three years ago was appointed to replace Dave Krenz, who resigned. "People are satisfied with the services they're getting and the value for their dollar.

Meanwhile, the candidacy of challenger Mark Guerra ended Tuesday with 392 votes.

Guerra was humbled at all the votes and support he received and delighted he didn't get trounced.

"It's not really disastrous, but by the same token, a win's a win and a loss is a loss," he said.

Algonquin Township, the largest in McHenry County, includes Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, Fox River Grove and Cary.
