Garage fire damages homes
The residents of four townhouses in Schaumburg were displaced in a fire in a neighboring unit Monday night. The blaze started in the garage of the townhouse at 1308 Springwood Drive at 8:55 p.m. Monday night. No one was injured. Schaumburg Fire Department Capt. John Steele said the fire is under investigation but not suspicious in nature. He said the garage was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene at about 8:55 p.m. The fire was under control in 10 minutes, but not before it spread to the second-story attic. He said adjoining units in the townhouse complex suffered some smoke and water damages. All affected families affected were able to find shelter.
Police look for impersonator
A man impersonating a police officer pulled over a woman in Arlington Heights at about 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, police said. The man was driving a dark pickup truck that had red and blue flashing lights. A woman driving north on Dryden Road from Oakton pulled over when she saw the flashing lightes behind her. However after pulling over, the woman became suspicious and dialed 911. The driver then made a U-turn and left the area without approaching her. Anyone with information should call the Arlington Heights Police Department at (847) 368-5300.
Fundraiser for children
K's For Kids will hold a fundraiser at 6 p.m. March 16 at The Ram, 700 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling. The evening includes dinner, a curl of beer and a tour of The Ram's brewery, all for $35. K's for Kids, a dream of the late coach, teacher, and Cubs fan, Tom Bujnowski, provides opportunities for children to attend Cubs games and seeks to promote positive life experiences through baseball. There will be a raffle featuring Cubs items, tickets for the upcoming 2009 season and other baseball memorabilia. Deadline for reservations is March 9.
