Authorities probe explosion at Alton business
ALTON -- Authorities in the Mississippi River city of Alton are trying to pinpoint what sparked an explosion at a business that makes explosive devices.
No injuries were reported after the blast shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday at Hanley Industries.
Authorities say the explosion destroyed a building at the business and sparked a fire in a nearby wooded area.
The company makes explosives and propellants and once was a Smith and Wesson plant that produced ammunition.
Fosterburg and Godfrey firefighters handled the blaze.
