Waukegan man gets probation in check forgery
A Waukegan man was placed on probation for two years after he admitted using a check stolen from a Lincolnshire couple to buy a video game system.
Lake County Associate Judge George Bridges also ordered Carlton Wallace, 21, to perform 200 hours of community service.
Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton said Wallace, of the 600 block of 8th Street, was with Latoyia Price, 25, of Zion, at the Wal-Mart in Zion on July 5. The two are seen on security video using the stolen check to purchase a PlayStation 3 video player for $362.
Police identified Price a few weeks later when it was learned she had used other financial information belonging to the couple to obtain a credit card.
The card was used to buy other electronic equipment online and at Lake County retail stores.
After her arrest, Price told police she had been given the check and the couple's information by someone she met on the street.
Price pleaded guilty to forgery in December and was placed on 30 months probation. Wallace pleaded guilty to the same crime Monday.
Charges of identity theft against both were dropped in exchange for the pleas.
