Elk Grove trucking service delivers car to wrong address
DETROIT -- A paraplegic man says his customized hand-controlled car was stolen after being dropped at the wrong Detroit address. Two companies involved in the delivery from California blame each other.
Thirty-four-year-old Walter Simon tells the Detroit Free Press he paid $1,500 to ship the Lincoln Mark VIII after his move.
Simon supplied a phone number but later got a new one. A driver for Preferred Trucking in Elk Grove Village called the old number and was given a different Detroit address for the Feb. delivery.
Preferred Trucking spokeswoman Amelita Redzic defends the driver and blames the company Simon first contacted, Dallas-based Dependable Auto Shippers Inc. Dependable's Erin Almand says it functioned like a travel agent.
