The African-American Coalition of Kane County Inc is a nonprofit organization that began in 2002 by presenting to the Elgin community the first Miss African-American Scholarship Pageant, and the first Juneteenth Festival. On May 24, 2003, Elgin's African-American community crowned its first Miss African-American Queen of Elgin, and on June 14, the African-American Coalition presented to the city of Elgin its first Juneteenth Festival.

During the pageant competition, youth, age 10 to 20, chose between an African-American queen or country to research and present to a panel of judges as they saw fit. The contestants have the opportunity to compete for scholarship monies toward their accredited higher education.
