Fire damages Hoffman Estates house; no one injured

A Sunday afternoon fire caused about $150,000 damage to a Hoffman Estates house, authorities said.

No one was hurt in the fire on the 1300 block of Fortune Bay Court, which occurred while no one was home.

The blaze at the two-story house was discovered about noon by a passer-by who drove to a nearby fire station to report the blaze, Hoffman Estates Fire Battalion Chief Tom Mackie said.

Firefighters were on the scene quickly and extinguished the blaze in about 10 minutes. The blaze started in a first-floor living room and was contained there, but smoke and heat damage occurred throughout the house, Mackie said.

Furniture was stacked in the living room because the house was being painted, Mackie said. The cause was under investigation.
