Milwaukee shuts out Wolves
Chicago Wolves goaltender Ondrej Pavelec made 24 saves on 25 shots, but the Milwaukee Admirals' Mark Dekanich came out on top, shutting out Chicago, 1-0, at the Allstate Arena Friday night.
Pavelec (11-12-1) held the Admirals to just 1 goal for his seventh game with 1 or fewer goals against, and first since the Wolves' 2-1 win over Milwaukee on Feb. 7, 2009.
Rookie goalie Dekanich (10-6-1) stopped all 27 Wolves shots to pick up his first professional shutout, the Wolves' second in 59 games this year.
The Wolves (29-27-2-1) now stand in fourth place in the West Division with 61 points, while Milwaukee (35-14-3-3) used the victory to pad its 12-point lead for first place.
"It was a real battle and a very tight game, but we made the mistake. Give them credit for playing a very focused game," said Wolves coach Don Granato. "Not converting on early chances in the first period caught up with us in a 1-0 game, but we turned it over in our zone. A defensive breakdown cost us the game."
Center Adam Miller provided the game's only offense when he put Milwaukee ahead, 1-0. The center carried the puck around off the boards and into the left faceoff circle, before flinging it by a screened Pavelec, 6:40 into the second frame.
The Wolves face the Peoria Rivermen at Carver Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m., before retuning home to host the league-leading Manitoba Moose at the Allstate Arena on Sunday at 3 p.m.
