Cops find, release husband of Libertyville woman found dead

The estranged husband of a Libertyville woman found dead of a drug overdose in her apartment was interviewed Friday by police and then released, authorities said.

Janine Wiltjer's husband, whose name was not released, was located Friday morning in Chicago, Libertyville Deputy Police Chief Bob Koval said.

No charges were filed against the man, but the case has been turned over to the Lake County state's attorney's office for review.

Further action is not expected this weekend, Koval said.

Wiltjer, 47, was found dead about 6:15 a.m. Thursday after her husband called police using her cellular telephone. When officers arrived at the apartment, the husband was gone.

Wiltjer's body was discovered in her bed, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said. There were no signs of physical injury.

She likely died in her sleep, Keller said.

An autopsy conducted Friday confirmed Wiltjer died of a drug overdose. She had toxic levels of opiates, likely heroin, in her body when she died, Keller said.

Wiltjer also had a blood-alcohol level of .25 percent. In comparison, that's more than three times the legal limit for motorists in Illinois.

The alcohol contributed to Wiltjer's death, Keller said.

No drugs or drug paraphernalia was found in the apartment. Investigators did find empty bottles of vodka and drink mixers, Keller said.

Police found Wiltjer's husband in Chicago after learning he spent time in the city, Koval said. He declined to say exactly where the man was found.

Koval also wouldn't reveal details from the man's statement to investigators. The man was not accompanied by an attorney when he gave the statement, Koval said.

Wiltjer worked as a medical assistant at a health care facility, Keller said. Her husband stayed with her in Libertyville irregularly, police said.
