White House pushes Burris for explanation
WASHINGTON -- The White House says embattled Illinois Sen. Roland Burris should come up with an explanation about the conflicting statements that have put his appointment in peril.
Press secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday that Burris should take time this weekend to "certainly think of what lays in his future."
The comments came as Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn called on his fellow Democrat to resign from the Senate. Burris is under fire about revelations that he attempted to raise money for disgraced former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and failed to disclose multiple conversations with Blagojevich advisers.
Gibbs says Burris should "come up with an explanation that satisfies."
