Fire damages kitchen in Lombard

A fire that reportedly started in a toaster spread to the walls of a home in Lombard Thursday, causing the windows of the home to blow out. The Lombard Fire Department responded to 572 S. Lewis Ave. around 5 p.m. Thursday. Although the fire was contained in just a few minutes, it had spread from the toaster to the kitchen walls and cabinets relatively quickly, officials said. The rest of the house sustained smoke and heat damage. Estimates on the damage were not available Thursday.
