Police say man killed wife, then self
Police in Sauk Village say twin 6-year-old boys were found safe after their father apparently shot to death their mother then turned the gun on himself.
Police were called late Tuesday to check the well-being of the family and found the two boys in their room, awake and unharmed.
Police found the master bedroom locked and had to break in. There, they found the bodies of 30-year-old Benita Shaheed and 43-year-old Sarwar Shaheed, who had a gun in his hand.
Autopsies conducted Wednesday by the Cook County medical examiner's office determined both had been shot in the head. The medical examiner's office ruled Sarwar Shaheed's death a suicide and Benita Shaheed's death a homicide.
Authorities say the two boys have been placed with family members.
