Arlington Heights investigating rash of burglaries

Arlington Heights police are investigating 12 burglaries or attempted burglaries that occurred in the past 30 days.

All of the burglaries happened when people weren't home, said Sgt. Tom Seleski of the Arlington Heights Police Department.

"They all happened in the daytime or the very early evening," he said. "We don't think they are all related, but the same person or people could be responsible for a group."

In total, nine homes and three office buildings were targeted. According to police reports, someone forced open doors at two single-family homes and stole jewelry, watches and coins. Items were also stolen from two condo storage lockers and four apartments. Computers were stolen from two office buildings.

The burglaries took place throughout the village, although the bulk of the home burglaries occurred north of Palatine Road and south of Dundee Road, Seleski said.

People should keep their porch lights on to prevent their home from looking deserted during the day, Seleski said.

"Burglars are looking for a lack of activity," he said.

Any one who sees suspicious activity should call 911 or the Arlington Heights Police Department at (847) 368-5300.
