Spaghetti dinner raises funds for cancer walk
Cindy Geye and daughter Julie are joining people across America taking on breast cancer by walking 60 miles over the course of three days. They will be camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking up the same challenge. It's part of the Breast Cancer 3-Day which benefits the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Even though the event is not for almost seven months, both mom and daughter are busy training and fundraising. They both must raise $2,300 in order to participate.
To help raise these funds, the duo will host their fourth annual "Old-Fashioned Spaghetti Dinner" on Friday, Feb. 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 310 E. Main St. in East Dundee. The dinner will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children and can be purchased at the door. Takeouts are also available. The dinner is supported by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
Geye, a 3-time breast cancer survivor, and her daughter have participated in past 3-day walks. She says, "Once my cancer went into remission, I knew that I needed to do something worthwhile. My daughter and I have an opportunity to honor those who lost their lives to breast cancer, and, also, to have an impact on raising awareness and funding for breast cancer research. We have known too many women, friends and acquaintances, who have had to fight this devastating disease. Every one deserves to live a lifetime."
