Rebuffed applicant drops suit against Huntley police

Erin O'Donnell just wanted to know why, after Huntley police offered her a job, the department rescinded the offer.

After finding out the reason, O'Donnell on Tuesday dropped her lawsuit against Huntley's board of police and fire commissioners, her lawyer said.

"My client decided not to proceed any further with the case," said Thomas McGuire, O'Donnell's attorney. "She is gainfully employed by a fire protection district."

McGuire declined to comment on the reason O'Donnell's job offer was pulled.

The lawsuit asked a McHenry County judge to reverse the board's decision to rescind the offer. The suit also sought access to records of the board's discussions regarding O'Donnell's employment. The suit did not seek monetary damages.

According to the suit, the commission told O'Donnell on July 22, 2008, that it would hire her as long as she passed a physical, a psychological exam, a drug test and a physical fitness test.

On Aug. 8, 2008, the suit alleged, O'Donnell got a letter stating the offer had been rescinded. The letter did not provide an explanation, according to the suit.

Thomas DiCianni, the board's attorney, did not return a call seeking comment.
