Visit 'Passport to the World' in Wheeling

"Passport to the World," Wheeling Park District's annual multicultural celebration, will be held 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at the Community Recreation Center, 333 W. Dundee Road in Wheeling.

The family event showcases the diversity of the numerous ethnicities that enrich the Wheeling community. Featured entertainment includes Rebecca McCarthy McDancers, a youth Irish dance group, Alegria Mexicana, a Mexican folkloric dance troupe, and Chopin Polish School youth dancers.

Games, activities, children's crafts and food is offered throughout the day. Admission is free; a small fee is charged for some food concessions and selected activities. The first 300 guests receive a free "Passport to the World" souvenir. The program is presented by the Wheeling Park District sponsored in part by the Village of Wheeling and Devon Bank.

Volunteer to help hospice patients

Monarch Hospice & Palliative Care, Arlington Heights, is seeking volunteers to sew heating pads and fleece throws or to crochet afghans for Monarch patients. Individuals or groups interested in helping should contact volunteer coordinator Barbara Clark at (847) 886-1818 or barbarac@monarchhospice.com. All materials will be provided by Monarch.

Also needed are volunteers to join Monarch's Cookie Brigade. These volunteers come to Monarch's Arlington Heights office to bake, from pre-mixed dough, and package cookies for delivery to patients and patient families.

Leyden parents get a taste of high school

Leyden High School District 212 invites parents to its annual "Take Your Parents to School Day" on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at both East and West campuses. The program welcomes parents into the schools while classes are in session, giving parents the opportunity to experience academic opportunities with their student. Basics of eBay given in D214 adult class

District 214 continuing education is sponsoring a class on learning to sell on eBay, held Feb. 18 and Feb. 25 at Hersey High School. The "eBay 101: Selling Basics" class is $65 and is taught by eBay University Instructor Jack Waddick. Register at www.ce214.org or call (847) 718-7700.
