Mundelein Park District offers old-school dodgeball to kids

Remember the feeling?

Holding that red rubber ball. Eyeing your opponent. Throwing as hard as you can. Hearing the thud as someone gets hit square in the back.

It's dodgeball and it's back at the Mundelein Park District Community Center. About 25 kids participated in the six-week program for kids ages 7 to 14.

"It's kind of old school, says Mary Priller, marketing specialist for the Mundelein Park District. "It's a game that kids' parents grew up playing in gym class."

Kids play a variety of different dodgeball games during the program. Safety is kept in mind, using foam balls as opposed to the old rubber ball.

"What kid doesn't want to throw a ball at someone? It's fun and a great stress reliever," says Priller.

Tonight marks the program's last session this time around. The program will be offered again, but probably not until next fall.

In the same vein, Mundelein Park District will be starting up a kickball league for adults ages 18 and older. Registration is due by April 24 and you will have to register as a team.

Games will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays at the Keith Mione Community Park in Mundelein. For more information, visit mundeleinparks.org.
