Taliban announce cease-fire in Pakistan's Swat Valley
PESHAWAR, Pakistan -- A Taliban spokesman says the militants will adhere to a 10-day cease-fire in Pakistan's Swat Valley during peace talks with the government.
The announcement Sunday by Muslim Khan comes a day after the Taliban in Swat freed a Chinese engineer held captive for nearly six months. Khan says he was freed as a goodwill gesture.
Swat was once a tourist haven and is now largely controlled by militants.
The peace talks so far appear to be focusing on introducing elements of an Islamic judicial system in Swat and surrounding areas.
