Carpentersville

• Police arrested a Chicago teen at the Fox View Apartments Thursday morning after a report that a drug deal was going to take place there. Ashley Garrett, 19, of the 8100 block of South Manistee Avenue, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Garrett had 2.21 grams of cocaine and a glass smoking pipe in her possession when she was arrested, police said. Her bond was set Friday at $1,000 and she remained in the Carpentersville lockup as of Friday. Her next court date is scheduled for Feb. 26 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Elgin

• A man was charged Friday for making more than $4,000 in unauthorized credit card purchases at two Elgin stores Wednesday. James R. Beavers, 32, of the 500 block of Cumberland Trail, Elgin, was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a credit card, police said. Beavers also was wanted on warrants with charges of forgery and driving while license revoked, police said. He was unable to post a $1,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail Friday afternoon. The next court date for Beavers is Feb. 24 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

• A search of a driver pulled over at Walnut Avenue and Vandalia Street on Thursday turned up 1.9 grams of cocaine in his left pants pocket and a pen tube with cocaine residue inside, police said. The driver, Damon D. Harkins, 32, of the 400 block of Central Street in Elgin, was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Harkins, who police said told them he bought the cocaine for $65, posted $1,000 bond Friday and is due to appear in court Feb. 26 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

• A woman reported Friday that someone broke into her home in the 1000 block of Iroquois Drive and stole a puppy, a video game system and two laptops, police said.

• Someone broke the two front-door windows on a Ford 450 parked in the 300 block of Slade Avenue Friday and stole a generator worth $1,200, a cement saw worth $1,000 and a jackhammer worth $1,000, police said. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $800.

• A man police was is homeless was arrested Friday morning for sleeping and living inside a laundry room in the Garden Quarter Apartments. Marcus Baldwin, 33, was charged with criminal trespass.

West Dundee

• A woman was arrested Thursday evening in Spring Hill Mall on allegations she stole merchandise worth $172.16. Eufemia Balderas-Carpio, 35, of the 100 block of Ensenada Drive, Carpentersville, was charged with felony retail theft, police said. Balderas-Carpio posted a $1,000 bond and was released from custody. She due in court on Feb. 22 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
