Russell's 3 extends St. Charles East's streak to 5
Tim Russell's 3-pointer with 6 seconds left gave St. Charles East a Lake Zurich 68-67 road win Saturday over Lake Zurich.
The Saints (8-14) not only won their fifth straight game and improved to 8-3 in their last 11 after their 0-11 start, they beat a team that has lost by 3 and 4 points to Warren and defeated Zion Benton.
"To beat them on their home court shows we can play with anybody," St. Charles East coach Brian Clodi said. "It really shows what we can do and how far we've come."
Kevin Senechalle led the Saints with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Russell added 14 and Jess Streidl and Zach Scott both scored 13.
Russell hit four of the Saints' 10 3-pointers. His game-winner prevented a fourth-quarter collapse that saw St. Charles East lose an 8-point lead with three minutes to go.
The going doesn't get any easier next week for St. Charles East. The Saints host 17-5 Glenbard East Tuesday and play Bartlett and Batavia Friday and Saturday.
"It's definitely going to make us tournament ready," Clodi said. The kids are really playing well."
