Home incarceration for Ill. letter threats suspect
A restaurant delivery man arrested for writing threatening letters to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich and other public officials has been placed on "home incarceration" pending the outcome of his case.
Twenty-eight-year-old Ronald Haddad of suburban River Forest will be able to leave his home only to go to church, visit his lawyer and receive mental health treatment. He's charged with one count of sending interstate threatening communications, a felony.
Federal Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Cole on Thursday also ordered a $15,000 recognizance bond.
Officials say that from December 2007 to last month, Haddad sent more than 25 letters and packages, some containing shotgun shells and white powder. No injuries have been reported.
