Game show theme for Street Scenes at Carmel Catholic High School
Letters will be turning, wheels spinning and quiz questions getting answered at the Street Scenes event at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein.
This year's theme is "Street Scenes Hosts Game Shows." There will be dozens of showrooms featuring skits and spoofs of popular TV game shows.
"Some of the skits will feature the old 'Let's Make a Deal' show and 'Hollywood Squares,'" said publicity director Marie Grimaldi.
There will also be a versions of the "Dating Game" and the very popular "Are You Smarter Than a 5th-grader?"
The 35th annual fundraising event will be held on Friday, Feb. 13 and Saturday, Feb. 14 at the school at 1 Carmel Parkway in Mundelein. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The event is open to the general public ages 21 and older. The cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
"The entire school is turned into a party town atmosphere," said Grimaldi. "We'll have live bands, a huge casino, food and drink from popular area restaurants, comedy clubs and the famous Student Show held in the auditorium," she said.
Street Scenes is Carmel's largest fundraiser. More than 1,000 adult and student volunteers make the event happen. In 2008, Street Scenes' profit was $395,000. Adult attendance totaled 4,920 and student night attendance was 1,550, according to Grimaldi.
Nearly 195,000 people have attended have attended since 1974 and more than $7 million has been raised. The money is used for the school's core educational programs.
