Rivers named Wolves captain

The Chicago Wolves have named defenseman Jamie Rivers as team captain for the 2008-09 season.

The 33-year old blueliner becomes the sixth player and second defenseman in franchise history to don the "C" after Steve Maltais (1994-1996 and 1997-2005), Troy Murray (1996-97), Kevin Dahl (2000-01), Derek MacKenzie (2005-06) and Darren Haydar (2007-08).

Rivers is in his first season with the Wolves and has posted 19 assists and 23 points in 45 contests this season.

The 11-year National Hockey League veteran collected 17 goals, 49 assists, 66 points and 385 penalty minutes in 454 career NHL games with the St. Louis Blues, New York Islanders, Ottawa Senators, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes.

Center Steve Martins and right wing Joey Crabb have been named alternate captains for the season.
