Populist Obama seems to excite everyone
Who is this Obama guy? People all around me are infused with hope and the promise of a revitalized United States of America. I keep wondering how the press will continue their tradition of cynicism and bitterness.
With George W. Bush it was all so easy. Almost too easy. He acted as if he, and his every deed, would be savored on the palate of generations to come. Yet, this new year has already suggested that his legacy, his little boy antics and his cadre of fossil fuel-addicted cronies will be swept away by the tide of Barack Obama's populist movement.
Some will ridicule me and suggest that I don't understand, but I believe China has been celebrating the new administration with parades, feasting and fireworks every night. Just yesterday, I heard that it snowed in the Bahamas. In an equally shocking turn of events, Canada has voted in favor of being annexed by the United States. The Canadians want Obama. The Venezuelans, the Russians and the Illinoisans want Obama, too. Just how many countries does this guy think he can manage?
On top of everything else, biodiversity is increasing. Forests are regrowing faster than expected. A college football playoff system looms on the horizon. You, the reader, may be tempted to call me a liar, but the future is starting to look good. Real good. In fact, this is the first president that I actually want to meet. Perhaps I can expect an invitation to a White House dinner - something formal, a couple glasses of champagne, elk medallions and a small piece of that sinful chocolate torte - please. And yes, I can be there on a weekday.
