Skeptical of Harper 4-year degree plan

As a former Harper College trustee candidate I previously stated that I am not in favor of this bill until someone can show me where the funding is coming from to address the 4- year degree.

While it has been stated over and over that no tax dollars will be used in the initiation of the degree I take exception, for the following reasons:

• $85,000 was approved for funding a lobbyist (the intent of a lobbyist is to influence legislation of this bill). While the Harper board says it is to monitor legislation, no other local community college has hired a lobbyist for a similar role.

• No corporate funds have been donated to fund the initial inquiry into the project. While there are many public agencies supporting the bill they cannot donate to it because it is our tax dollars. I would like to understand what corporate donors are funding this initiative.

• The board continues to act as if it has no opposition to these issues. As a tax professional, community resident and community college supporter I will continue to voice my displeasure with this bill until someone provides me with details outlining the cost spent to date and future expenditures.
