End court fight and start negotiations
Give it up. Barrington continues to fight the battle of the railroad with no hope of winning. The decision by the STB board has been given after the required due diligence according to rules set in place that govern these decisions. The decision was correct if one applies the simple ethical concept of utilitarianism, the greatest good for the greatest number.
Moving train traffic further out from Chicago will lessen the impact on more people. Faster train routes through Chicago will translate into lesser costs for the railroad and probable saving on freight costs for consumers and industry.
Rail has long been and will continue to be an economic life blood of our region. The failure of our leaders to see the inevitable conclusion of this purchase only reflects on their inability to see how Barrington must relate to the entire area and not act as a single entity. The propaganda that this fight has instilled is that Barrington as a town will be ruined should the CN purchase go through; continuing the fight only continues this message.
Our fight should be to seek resources from Obama's stimulus package in order to get some grade separations at our railroad crossings. Here we may have a reasonable opportunity to get relief from the traffic that bottlenecks our town.
