Local high schools use resale shop for fashion contest

Nine local high schools will compete in an annual fashion merchandising competition at a clothing resale store in Libertyville.

From Saturday, Feb. 14 to Sunday, March 8, the high school teams will each create a display at Plato's Closet, 1420 S. Milwaukee Ave., a resale store which specializes in teen apparel and accessories.

A ballot box will be set up and customers can decide which team has best combined fashion and marketing. The winners will receive $250. This is the third year of the fashion display contest.

Each of the team's displays will feature clothes and accessories from Plato's Closet that incorporate the school's name, colors and mascot. The theme can be school spirit, St. Patrick's Day, or spring. Students also can try to sell the items to the store in the "Sell to the Store" category.

The high schools competing are Warren Township, Antioch, Carmel, Deerfield, Round Lake, Grant, Libertyville, Vernon Hills and Wheeling.

Warren Township's seven-member team set up its display Sunday.

"It's good we have different styles," said senior Emilie Schwenk, who plans to study fashion in New York after graduation.
