Judson auction to aid student mission trips
Winning bidders in Judson University's second annual silent auction will not only take home items from Kenya and India or gift cards from local businesses, they will help fund mission projects that many Judson students will take this spring.
Not only do students forgo the typical spring break experience, they have to raise funds to pay for the privilege. This is where the annual auction comes in.
The auction, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, and Tuesday, Feb. 10, in the Lindner Upper Commons, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. It is open to the public.
Patrons of the auction will find items such as a wedding dress, Xbox game and products from Pampered Chef and Mary Kay. Other items in the auction include scarves, hats, handmade jewelry, afghans, gift cards for haircuts and restaurants, and services such as baby-sitting and cleaning services.
All proceeds from the auction benefit Judson Mission Projects, which will take place during the university's spring break the week of March 9-13. Mission projects made up of 20 to 30 students, faculty and staff will travel to places such as Haiti, the Dominican Republic and locally, Chicago, with the sole purpose of serving others. Each mission project connects with a local service organization based at these destinations so that students can work in orphanages, build playgrounds or learn about things like effective teamwork and racial injustice.
