Goal-scoring drought doesn't concern Ladd

CALGARY, Alberta - Blackhawks left winger Andrew Ladd wasn't losing any sleep about going 13 games without a goal.

"Obviously we need a lot of different guys chipping in, but my game is all sort of different things and not really just scoring," said Ladd, who broke his drought with a goal in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Flames. "I thought I had been playing well in all areas."

The line of Ladd, Dave Bolland and Martin Havlat has been one of the Hawks' best this season.

"Our line is counted on to be good defensively and chip in offensively where we can," Ladd said. "Lately we've been pretty good offensively."

Bolland seems to be getting better and better. His 2 assists against the Flames gave him 6 points in the first five games of the road trip.

"Individually it's going well, but it's a team game out there," Bolland said.

Still searching: It's now 1 goal in 17 games for Patrick Kane, who missed a great scoring chance two minutes into Thursday's game when Flames goalie Miikka Kiprusoff robbed him in tight.

Hawks coach Joel Quenneville still sees Kane's game picking up as his ankle gets stronger.

"I just think whether hes producing or not right now, I can see more in his game," Quenneville said.

Around the league: It was a newsy day in the NHL on Thursday. The Red Wings have lost Tomas Holmstrom for 3-5 weeks because of hernia surgery. Detroit's first-place lead in the Central Division over the Hawks has been trimmed to 7 points.

The Blues placed goalie Manny Legace on waivers, while Washington goaltender Brent Johnson underwent hip surgery and will miss 6-8 weeks.

The Red Wings and Capitals both are said to be looking for goaltending help down the stretch with Detroit possibly interested in Toronto's Vesa Toskala.

Tip-ins: Not only do the Hawks own a 9-point hold on fourth place in the Western Conference, they have five games in hand on fifth-place Anaheim. ... Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo still is trying to find his game after missing two months with a groin injury. Luongo has a 3.62 goals-against average and .878 save percentage. ... After tonight's game against the Canucks, the Hawks will spend the night and fly home Sunday for two days of practice before the trip continues Wednesday in Atlanta.
