Hampshire claims BN-East outright
Hampshire (21-4, 9-0) clinched the Big Northern East Conference championship title outright with an 86-31 rout of North Boone Friday in its final home game of the season. The conference title is Hampshire's second straight.
Giannia Estocado and Christina Heine shared leading scorer honors each with 15 points. Also reaching double digits were Kelly Plichta (14 points) and Christine Schumacher (12 points).
With everybody on the roster scoring, including 55 points from the seniors, the Whip-Purs racked up 86 points. The tally is their highest since Dec. 6, 2001 when they defeated Genoa-Kingston 87-31. The closest they've come since was on Jan. 3, 2004 when they beat Harvard 84-25.
"Our seniors were shining stars tonight," said coach Sue Ellett. "Everybody got to play and everybody contributed.
"Our seniors especially played extremely well for their last game on the home court."
Burlington Central 43, Harvard 33: Burlington Central (15-11, 6-4) earned its third straight win with this Big Northern East Conference victory. Taylor Colby (13 points) led the offense followed by Molly Turk (11 points) and Jordan Maisto (10 points).
