Lake Zurich to rock the school house
Whoever thought grammar, math and social studies lessons could be fun?
The folks behind "School House Rock Live," that's who.
And the Lake Zurich High School drama department is bringing the show to Lake County Feb. 6-8.
"School House Rock Live!" is based on short - but beloved - cartoons that ran on ABC-TV in the 1970s and 1980s. The stage play features many of the series' classic songs, including "Three is a Magic Number," "Just a Bill" and "Conjunction Junction."
But the show, which originated in Chicago in the 1990s, isn't merely a series of musical numbers. It's about a new teacher who's nervous about his first day of school. When he watches TV to relax, characters representing aspects of his personality come to life and show him how to win over his students.
The Lake Zurich shows will be staged in the high school's performing arts center, 300 Church St., and are part of its children's theater program.
Cast members include Jeff Johnson, Aaron Kornick, Holly Kapraun, Austin Davis, Logan Fisher, Savannah Haeger, Dillon Dreiling and Jenni McHenry.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 6; 2 and 7 p.m. Feb. 7; and 2 p.m. Feb. 8.
Tickets are $8 for adults or $6 for senior citizens, students and children.
To order tickets, call (847) 540-4740 or send an e-mail to boxoffice@lz95.org. Tickets purchased at the door have an additional $2 surcharge.
