Celebrate winter at annual Lombard carnival
Families will be able to revel in the wonders of winter Saturday at Lombard Park District's annual Winter Carnival.
Families will be able to enjoy a variety of activities from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Lombard Community Building, 433 E. St. Charles Road.
"Families can come out and have a good time for a couple of hours," said Matt Fairbanks, a program manager for the park district. "Make the best of the winter weather."
The event will feature hay rides, the Holiday Express train, refreshments, games and a marshmallow roast.
Games will include snowball throwing and snowman building contests outside, weather permitting, Fairbanks said. If the event goes indoors, the two competitions will be replaced with a craft.
Carnival games run by park district personnel also will be held outside, weather permitting. Everyone can try their hand at knocking milk cans over, tossing rings, inflating a balloon until it pops and flipping toy fish into a basket, he said.
For added entertainment, a magician will roam the area doing tricks for about an hour before setting up a stationary 45-minute performance that will feature animals.
Concessions will be available, including cotton candy, caramel popcorn, hot chocolate and hot cider.
The ice rink may be accessible on the nearby basketball courts if temperatures remain cold enough, but no set activities are scheduled on the ice.
Registration is not required for the free event.
