Harpist in Elgin, Welsh glock band in Chicago
You gotta have harp
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra welcomes harpist Yolanda Kondonassis this weekend for a series of shows in which she'll perform as a soloist. She'll be doing Beethoven's "Pastoral" Sixth Symphony as well as the Ginastera Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, a selection from her recent triumphant performance alongside the Cleveland Orchestra.
8 p.m. Friday at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, and at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Hemmens Theater, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Tickets are $40 to $63. Call (847) 895-3600 for the Friday show, (847) 888-4000 for Saturday and Sunday, or visit elginsymphony.org.
Peasants & rap
Two great new international acts come to town this weekend. Los Campesinos! is a lively glockenspiel-driven Welsh band (the name translates loosely as "the peasants") that just about blew out the Empty Bottle a year ago. K'naan is a Somalian rapper resettled in Toronto, and his debut album "The Dusty Foot Philosopher" finds him not only flowing with the best, but dissing American rappers on "What's Hardcore?" for their comfy thug lives compared to the real world in Somalia.
@x BTO factbox text bold with rule:Titus Andronicus opens for Los Campesinos! at 9 p.m. Saturday at the Logan Square Auditorium, 2539 N. Kedzie, Chicago. Tickets are $15. See logansquareauditorium.com or call (773) 252-6179. K'naan performs at Subterranean, 2011 W. North Ave., Chicago, at 7 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $13. See subt.net or call (773) 278-6600. Both shows are all-ages.
Ambient fundraiser
The local ambient rock band Makeshift Prodigy plays a fundraiser Friday at Enclave downtown.
Enclave is at 220 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago. Tickets are $20, benefiting the Make a Wish Foundation, and there will be an open bar for the 21-and-older show from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m.
