Gov. Quinn opts for United, coach to get to D.C.
SPRINGFIELD - In marked contrast to the style of his predecessor, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn took a United Airlines flight to the nation's capital to discuss the effects of an economic stimulus plan.
Quinn, who took over last week following the impeachment and removal of Rod Blagojevich from office, flew coach rather than take the state plane, which Blagojevich had an affinity for.
"That's just the way he is," said spokesman Bob Reed. "He's not big on perks or entourage."
Reed said two staffers accompanied Quinn.
Blagojevich riled critics by using the state plane to commute back and forth to the state Capitol rather than spend the night at the nearby governor's mansion. He also frequently took the plane to out-of-state appearances.
