Walgreen January sales up 5.3 percent

DEERFIELD - Walgreen Inc. reported that overall sales rose by 5.3 percent in January to $5.22 billion from $4.96 billion in during the same month last year. Sales in comparable stores, those open at least a year, rose only .4 percent. Walgreens opened 23 stores during January, including four relocations, acquired four stores and closed one.
