McBride, Fire roll past UCF

BRADENTON, FLA. - The Chicago Fire opened their 2009 campaign with a 5-0 win in a preseason scrimmage against the University of Central Florida on Sunday. The Fire, playing varied lineups in three separate 30-minute intervals, opened scoring in the 25th minute with a header goal by veteran Brian McBride. The Fire scored in the 31st minute on a goal by Stefan Dimitrov, who added another goal in the 51st minute. The Fire added two goals in the final four minutes of the match. The Fire will next face the Kansas City Wizards in a preseason scrimmage on Wednesday at the IMG Academies.
