Tree vandal should step up and admit it
This past November, I read in the blotter that some Halloween vandalism had taken place near Prospect High School. In that blotter note, it mentioned a tree had been stolen along with some smashed pumpkins and some decorations.
I thought that was rather odd and could not picture at the time a tree missing on Forest. Each time I drove one of my girls to high school, I would look for an empty tree spot.
Later, I had learned of the missing tree. This tore at my heart and I cannot imagine the feeling this family has gone through. This tree was planted by a family who received it from the grade school. It was in recognition of Arbor Day. They were looking forward to seeing this tiny tree grow. They had taken special care of this tree by protecting it with a fence.
This past summer, they had experienced a terrible loss. This tree was the one living symbol that kept a joyous occasion alive. Now, the tree is gone. Someone robbed them of a beautiful memory. Sure the tree can be replaced, but the tree and the memory it held was stolen.
I could only hope that someone involved in this prank would read this and be affected by this letter.
It's not too late to apologize for what you have done. This is the year we are looking for change and hope for our youth. Make the right choice and be the better person.
