Chess tournament this weekend in Arlington Heights

For the third year in a row, Windsor Elementary School in Arlington Heights will host a chess tournament from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Kids in kindergarten through eighth grade will compete for individual and team trophies and awards.

Last year, about 100 kids attended, including representatives from all nine District 25 schools and 20 other schools throughout the Chicago area. And if you wonder what is happening with the former Boston Market building at Town & County Shopping Center along Palatine Road, Verizon Wireless is planning to open a retail store there.

Verizon officials hope to add a new architectural facade and landscaping to the site. The village's design commission heard about the plans this week.
