2008-2009 Daily Herald Leadership Team
We're pleased today to present our 2008-09 Daily Herald Leadership Team.
The teenagers on these pages, whether they are winners or honorable mentions, are a remarkable lot. They were nominated by their public or private high schools as young people who stand out among their peers - not just for volunteering their time, but also for developing into leaders in their communities.
Their volunteer activities cover a wide range of interests. They mentor children, feed the hungry, fundraise for all sorts of causes and make life brighter for the elderly. They work in their own backyards or travel great distances.
The common thread is that these are students who do, not just talk. And without exception, these are students who lead.
We call it the Leadership Team because while any kind of volunteerism has great value, young people who learn how to organize, and persuade others of the justness of their cause, are the ones capable of making real change.
The 2008-09 teams were judged by educators and civic leaders from around our region. We're grateful for their time and hard work.
The nearly 100 public and private high schools in our readership area have produced another bumper crop of outstanding teenagers who believe their mission in life is to leave the world a better place.
We're proud to introduce them to you.
