Music documentaries focus on Rollins, Green

Robert Mugge has been called "the king of the American music documentary," and this week two of his more notable profiles came out on DVD. "Gospel According to Al Green" is a 1984 documentary about the soul stud turned Pentecostal preacher. The DVD includes performances, a sermon and a 90-minute interview with Green. "Sonny Rollins: Saxophone Colossus" is a 1986 profile of the most relentless improviser in jazz.

Good as Golka

Adam Golka is a 21-year-old who has become an internationally acclaimed concert pianist. He performs in Downers Grove this weekend as part of the Artists Showcase West series. He'll play a selection of Beethoven, Chopin and Weburn, as well as Schubert's "Grand Sonata."

Kris & 'Bobby McGee'

Kris Kristofferson comes to the area this weekend touring behind the aptly titled "This Old Road," his first studio album in more than a decade. He's also sure to mix in classics like "Me and Bobby McGee," made most famous by Janis Joplin. He's come a long way since he was emptying ashtrays in a Nashville music studio during the recording of Bob Dylan's "Blonde on Blonde."
