Martin to host 'SNL' for record 15th time

Hugh Laurie stars in the 100th episode of "House."

Steve Martin plays host to "Saturday Night Live" for a record 15th time at 10:30 p.m. on NBC's WMAQ Channel 5. He's promoting "The Pink Panther 2," which looks as if it needs all the promotional help it can get. Jason Mraz is the musical guest, thus sparing viewers Martin's banjo playing. "SNL" has been on a hot streak, but if anyone can drag it back to the morass of mediocrity it's the egotistic, determinedly stoopid Martin.

'House' makes it 100

Hugh Laurie's "House" marks its 100th episode at 7 p.m. Monday on Fox's WFLD Channel 32. He'll take on the case of a cancer researcher stricken after she gave up her career to pursue her personal happiness - an utterly alien concept, of course, to Laurie's forever-cranky title physician.

'Polio' grounds

PBS' "American Experience" looks at the race to develop a vaccine for polio and stamp out the disease in "The Polio Crusade" at 9 p.m. Monday on WTTW Channel 11. Like a good nonfiction book, it finds a surprisingly dramatic story behind the medical breakthrough.

Whence the Gipper

Turner Classic Movies gets in on the biggest football weekend of the year with "Knute Rockne, All American." It stars Pat O'Brien as the legendary Notre Dame football coach and Ronald Reagan as his ill-fated star player, George Gipp. It's a hammy, melodramatic sports classic, at 5:15 p.m. Friday on TCM.
