Quinn's silence on taxes is loud, clear

Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn was asked recently at a news conference to refute the allegation made by Gov. Blagojevich that once he was "railroaded" out of office a host of taxes would be increased, including the state income tax and gasoline tax. Mr. Quinn did not unequivocally deny the rantings of Gov. Blagojevich, which means Gov. Blago wasn't ranting at all but stating a fact. While Mr. Quinn didn't give us a "read my lips" statement his non-denial of the impending tax increases had better forewarn the taxpayers of this state to be prepared for what the future holds.

Democrats and Republicans alike have developed a Ponzi scheme of their own that they are about to foist off on the taxpayers of this state. One only has to look at the woefully underfunded pension plans and the money owed to the state's service providers to understand that the fiscal irresponsibility of our elected state leaders cannot go on indefinitely.

Gov. Blagojevich warns of a 66 percent state income tax increase once he's ousted. We can only hope and pray that the increase isn't closer to 100 percent. Mr. Quinn, we don't have to "read your lips." When a politician's lips in this state don't move is when it's time to hold onto our collective wallets.
