Blagojevich's potential pension is $64,000

State records show that although Rod Blagojevich was kicked out of office on Thursday and can't return, he could qualify for a pension of about $64,000.

But it's not a certainty he'll receive the money.

Retirees must apply for pensions and the State Employee Retirement System can deny the request.

Blagojevich paid into the General Assembly Retirement System. He was a state legislator from 1993 through 1996 and became governor in 2003.

The 52-year-old could start collecting at age 55.

There's also the issue of Blagojevich's arrest on federal corruption charges.

The board stripped former Gov. George Ryan, who was convicted of racketeering and fraud, of his $197,000-a-year pension. Ryan went to court to try to keep his pension but lost.
