North Aurora pizzeria takes gambling motif
Steve Edwards, owner of a new pizzeria and pub in North Aurora, realizes that launching a restaurant right now is a gamble.
It's just a coincidence though that he named the pizzas after poker terms, including the Jackpot, Royal Flush and Full House pizzas.
Based on his nickname, Edwards opened Eddie's Pizza & Pub at 45 S. Randall Road in North Aurora in mid-December. The pizzeria, in the Clock Tower Mall, seats about 95 people. Ryan Means of Aurora serves as manager.
The establishment, which serves appetizers and sandwiches, features a full bar and four flat screen TVs.
"It's a family atmosphere," said Edwards, a resident of Aurora.
A favorite at the eatery is the taco pizza topped with sausage, crushed taco chips, lettuce, tomato and sour cream on the side. The Jackpot Pizza is another popular pick with sausage, pepperoni, onion, mushroom and green pepper. These pizzas sell for $14.25 for a small and $17.50 for a large.
He also offers all the traditional pizzas with thin, soft dough and deep dish crusts.
He added that this area is in need of this type of restaurant. "I grew up on this style pizza," he added.
The entrepreneur said he's trying to keep prices low. A personal cheese pizza goes for $5.50 while a large goes for $13. The bar serves bottled beer for $3 and draft beers for $2. Wi-Fi access is available.
Edwards, a graduate of Aurora East High School, recently retired from ComEd where he worked for 30 years as a lineman, crew leader.
"I've always been interested in a place like this. The time was right," he said.
The eatery is open from 3 to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
