Batavia business workshop

Join small business owners for a free iworkshop, "Team Up for Success!" at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Congregational Church of Batavia, 21 S. Batavia Ave. Participants will work in small groups to identify ways to link together to promote their businesses. High school prep

Geneva High School has its eighth-grade Parent Night at 7 p.m. Thursday in Viking Commons at the school, 416 McKinley Ave. It will provide information about the departments and progression of courses, and services provided by the counseling department. Ice harvesting program

You can learn how farmers once harvested ice and stored it in their own icehouses during a program from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Kline Creek Farm in Winfield. Staff members and volunteers will take to the frozen surface of Timber Lake - weather permitting - and demonstrate the age-old techniques. The program is free. Ask A Lawyer Day

Free legal advice is available on the second Saturday of each month though the Kane County Bar Association's ongoing Ask A Lawyer Day program. Members of the public can call (630) 762-1900 between 9 a.m. and noon for a free consultation with a volunteer attorney. The next session is Feb. 14. Senior tax deferral

Applications are being accepted until March 1 for the Senior Citizen Real Estate Tax Deferral Program. The program allows qualifying seniors, ages 65 and older, to defer their property taxes until they sell their home. To qualify, an applicant's annual household income cannot exceed $50,000 and the property must be exclusively residential. The deferral is treated as a loan and accrues 6 percent interest until paid.
