Cops question man in slaying of Curry's ex

A man questioned in the slayings of the ex-girlfriend of former Chicago Bulls player Eddy Curry and her 9-month-old daughter has been released from custody, authorities said Monday.

The man was arrested over the weekend in a hotel outside Michigan City, Ind., on a charge of failing to leave a hotel at his checkout time, said LaPorte County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy James Sosinski.

Chicago police informed the sheriff's department after the man's arrest that he was a "person of interest" in the shooting deaths of Nova Henry, 24, and her 9-month-old daughter, Ava, and they wanted to talk to him, Sosinski said. He is not being named because he has not been charged with a crime.

Sosinski stressed that Chicago police did not call the man a suspect and said that after they interviewed him, he posted bail on the charge stemming from his arrest at the hotel and was released from custody.

Chicago Police spokeswoman Monique Bond would not confirm or deny that investigators had interviewed anyone. She said that as of Monday afternoon, nobody was in custody in the slayings and that police had not named any suspects. Previously she said police suspected the killings were the result of a domestic dispute.

Over the weekend, Deputy Superintendent Steve Peterson said police wanted to talk to someone who was "the object of an order of protection," but the person had not been located. Bond would not say whether police have talked to that person or if that person was the man LaPorte County authorities say Chicago police interviewed.

On Saturday evening, a relative found the bodies of Henry and Ava in their apartment near the South Side. An autopsy revealed both had been shot to death.

Also found unharmed at the scene was Henry and Curry's 3-year-old son.

Curry now plays for the New York Knicks.

Also Monday, Knicks president Donnie Walsh says the team told Curry "to take the time that he needs" as he copes with the death.

Curry was not with the team for its game Monday against the Houston Rockets.

Walsh says he told Curry that the franchise supports him and will help in any way it can.
