Buffalo Grove experiencing rash of burglaries
A string of Buffalo Grove burglaries this month appear to be related, police said Monday.
The village saw four burglaries over this past weekend and eight total this month, which is considered high, said Buffalo Grove Commander Steve Husak.
Police believe the burglaries are connected not just because there have been so many lately, but because the method of entry into the homes and the items taken appear to be similar in each case.
The thieves take mostly jewelry, leaving behind bigger items, like TVs and laptops, Husak said.
Also, the thieves pry open the doors or sometimes enter through unlocked windows. Many of the crimes occurred on Friday or Saturday nights when no one was home, he said.
The village began seeing a spike in burglaries last summer, Husak said. The number of burglaries is continuing to rise.
Between June and December last year, the village had 19 burglaries compared to eight this month, with the last weekend representing half of the total.
The latest burglaries include:
• On the 400 block of Castlewood Road after 3 p.m. Friday. Burglars entered through an unlocked window; homeowners are not sure if anything is missing.
• On the 300 block of Hawthorne Road between 8:50 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Burglars ransacked the rooms and stole expensive Russian jewelry.
• On the 300 block of Dundee Parkway between 1:30 p.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday. Burglars ransacked the master bedroom and stole $305 and jewelry.
• On the 300 block of Dundee Parkway between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday. Burglars kicked open a locked door, but nothing appeared to be missing.
