Cary-Grove's Sandstrom to play at UWS

Cary-Grove senior Tori Sandstrom is going to pull double duty in college starting this fall.

Sandstrom has committed to play both volleyball and basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Stout - an NCAA Division III institution.

Sandstrom, an honors student and three-sport athlete at Cary-Grove, will be an applied science major concentrating in the school's pre-chiropractic program.

"Tori's experience with the run-and-gun style of basketball and her strong academic performance is why we are excited about her joining the team," remarked UW-Stout women's basketball coach Mark Thomas.

Stout women's volleyball coach Jill Jolliff is also thrilled to have Sandstrom on the roster for next year.

"I need a middle hitter who can terminate the ball. That is why Tori will be an asset to our team. She has a powerful arm," said Jolliff.

Sandstrom's college choices came down to UW-Stout and Lawrence University.

"I have always played three sports and worked hard in school, so I knew I wanted to continue that in college," said Sandstrom, who said Stout's strong academic program in applied science was a deciding factor. "When it came time to choose between basketball and volleyball, I couldn't pick one, so I'm glad that UW-Stout is letting me play both."
